Intertextuality
Intertextuality is where a certain media text references to a different media text. This happens a lot in 'The Simpsons' , nearly every episode contains intertextuality to at least one famous film. For example, they referenced the film 'Psycho'.
Intertextuality also happens in other media texts, like music videos. For example, intertextuality is used between the film 'Clueless' and in the music video 'Fancy' by Iggy Azalea. This is copied at the beginning of the music video and this makes the audience almost recognise it from the film and so they are more entertained while watching the music video. The whole point of this was to create more attention towards the music video for it to get more recognition and to promote it.
Intertextuality also occurs between 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' and 'Madonna Material Girl'.
The point of intertextuality is that it reminds the audience of that famous moment and creates nostalgic associations which may entertain the audience more and help to promote the music video.
